Guatemala City:  October 30-November 6
Lake Churches:  November 6-13
Zacapa Churches:  November 13-20

If you would like to bring a team to serve and minister during any or all of the of the above dates, contact Sarah Poythress at
spoythress@newlifelaplata.org. We look forward to seeing you and serving with you!

Bible stories, verses, and theme are listed below the information about how many children to prepare for and information needed for bringing teams.  We look forward to seeing and serving with many of you in November!

Number of children expected to attend VBS:

            3-5 years of age -- 175 children

            6-9 years of age -- 375 children

            10-12 years of age -- 350 children

13 years of age and up -- 250 youth -- do not prepare crafts for this group but if you have ideas of spiritual growth activities they could do, please send those ideas to me at spoythress@newlifelaplata.org and I will pass them along to the committee.

This year, in Guatemala City, there will not be photographs taken for one of the craft days.  Since the Polaroid film is no longer available, it is just too difficult to try to take photographs and then get them back to the teachers and then to the children.  The teachers feel a bit overwhelmed so until another technology comes along that allows for quick printing/reproduction of photographs, we won’t be doing them.  This will be a big disappointment for the children but we know that your hugs and one-on-one attention will go a long way to make up for it!

Crafts should match the daily Bible story or verse….that information will be included at the end of this email.  Excitement is growing and the children are already talking about VBS and when will they (all of you!) come!

If you plan to come and help serve in this wonderful outreach, we need to know

1.  how many will be on your team

2.  first and last names of team members

3.  all the below flight information ….

            Airline
            Flight number
            Arrival date and time
            Departure date and time

4.  for Guatemala City VBS:  number of males and females

5.  for Lake and Zacapa area VBS:  number of males, females, couples and rooming list (2 per room)

Expense breakdowns cannot be completed until all of that information is received.

All information needs to be sent to spoythress@newlifelaplata.org by September 20. If you have questions, please send email to same address. Thank you!

Here is the weekly theme, daily scriptures and daily theme for the 2010 November VBS:

VBS THEME:  Christian Champions of Christ [Campeons Cristianos o de Cristo]

Lesson 1.  The Good Battle of the Champion [La Buena Batalla Del Campeon]

2 Timothy 2:3  Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

      Fight the Good Battle

1 Timothy 6:12  Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

1 Corinthians 10:11-13  11These things happened to them as examples and were written down as warnings for us, on whom the fulfillment of the ages has come. 12So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! 13No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

John 16:33  "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

1 Corinthians 9:24-26  24Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.  25Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. 26Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air.

2 Timothy 4:7-8  7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing

Lesson 2.  The Enemy of the Champion [El Enemigo del Campeon]

2 Timothy 2:3  Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

In each war/fight there are two sides:  the good ones and the bad ones [En cada Guerra o pelea hay does lados:  los Buenos y los malos.]

The enemy likes to cause problems and the champion likes and desires peace. [El enemigo que le gusta causar problemas y el campéon que le gusta y desea la paz.]

Let’s discover who is our enemy. [Descubramos al Enemigo]

Matthew 12:24-29 and 36-43   24But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "It is only by Beelzebub, the prince of demons, that this fellow drives out demons." 25Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand? 27And if I drive out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your people drive them out? So then, they will be your judges. 28But if I drive out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. 29"Or again, how can anyone enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Then he can rob his house.

36But I tell you that men will have to give account on the day of judgment for every careless word they have spoken. 37For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned." 38Then some of the Pharisees and teachers of the law said to him, "Teacher, we want to see a miraculous sign from you." 39He answered, "A wicked and adulterous generation asks for a miraculous sign! But none will be given it except the sign of the prophet Jonah. 40For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 41The men of Nineveh will stand up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and now one[a] greater than Jonah is here. 42The Queen of the South will rise at the judgment with this generation and condemn it; for she came from the ends of the earth to listen to Solomon's wisdom, and now one greater than Solomon is here. 43"When an evil spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it.

The enemy has many names. [El Enemigo Tiene Muchos Nombres]

Revelation 12:9   9The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.

1 Peter 5:8   8Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Ephesians 6:11-15   11Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes. 12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.

1 Corinthians 10: 20-21    20No, but the sacrifices of pagans are offered to demons, not to God, and I do not want you to be participants with demons. 21You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too; you cannot have a part in both the Lord's table and the table of demons.

Matthew 4:1-11   1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread."  4Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'" 5Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6"If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"
7Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"  8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9"All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."  10Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.'"  11Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

Romans 8:35, 37, 39   35Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?    37No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.    39neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Lesson 3     The Importance of One’s Armor [La Importancia de una Armadura]

1 Timothy 6:12   12Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

The Vest of Justice, The Belt of Truth, The Shoes of Preparation, The Shield of Faith, The Helmet of Salvation [La Coraza de Justica, el Cinturon de la Verdad, El Calzado de las Preparación, El Escudo de la Fe, El Yelmo de la Salvacion]

The Champion should know and not forget that his captain, Jesus, died to save him from sin. [El campéon debe saber y no olvidar, que su capitan Jesús murió por salvarlo del pecado.]

Lesson 4.  The enemy’s arrows of fire are aimed at the champion that fights [Los dardos de fuego del enemigo para el campeon que lucha]

Ephesians 6:12  12For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

The arrows of the enemy aimed at the champion that fights are:  Jealousy, traps, stealing, lies, bad movies, bad music, pride, disobedience, hatred, and love of worldly things.

2 Timothy 4:7-8  7I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

The champion will obtain the crown of justice from God. [La corona de justicia que le sera dada en el paraiso de Dios.]

The inheritance of the champion is to serve Jesus:  [La herencia para los campeones vencedores al servicio del rey Jesus es:]

      1.  The Holy City, the New Jerusalem, with the tree and river of life with streets of gold and the crystal sea.  [La ciudad celestial, la nueva Jerusalén con el árbol y rio de vida con calle de oro y mar de cristal.]

Revelation 21:9-A and 22:5   9One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, "Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb."       5There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

      2.  Other rewards: [Otros premios:]

Victory and eat from the tree of life. [El que venciere comerá de; árbol de la vida]
Revelation 2:7  7He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

Eat of the hidden manna and given a new name.  [Comerá del maná Escondido y tendrá un nombre Nuevo.]
Revelation 2:17  17He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will give some of the hidden manna. I will also give him a white stone with a new name written on it, known only to him who receives it.

Dressed in white and name will never be erased from the Book of Life.  [Será vestido de ves tiduras blancas, su nombre no será borrado del libro de la vida.]
Revelation 3:5  5He who overcomes will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out his name from the book of life, but will acknowledge his name before my Father and his angels.

Sit down with Jesus beside the throne.  [Se sentará con Jesús en su trono.]
Revelation 3:21  21To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne.

Inherit all things.  [Heredará todas las cosas.]
All the treasures of the universe will be opened before his eyes.  [Todos los tesoros del universo seran abiertos ante sus ojos]

Isaiah 45:3  3 I will give you the treasures of darkness, riches stored in secret places, so that you may know that I am the LORD, the God of Israel, who summons you by name.

Revelation 2:10 advises:  “Be faithful until you die and I will give you the crown of life.”
[Apoc. 2:10 Nos Aconseja:  “Se fiel hasta la muerte y yo te dare la corona de la vida.”]

Revelation 2:10  10Do not be afraid of what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will put some of you in prison to test you, and you will suffer persecution for ten days. Be faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you the crown of life.
